Living along the beautiful South Carolina coast is a dream, but the Grand Strand summers bring intense heat and humidity that can be incredibly dangerous for our pets. Heatstroke can occur in a matter of minutes if proper precautions aren't taken.
The 7-Second Asphalt Test
Before taking your dog for a walk, place the back of your hand on the asphalt. If you can't hold it there comfortably for 7 seconds, it is too hot for your dog's paws. Pavement can easily reach 140°F on an 85°F day, causing severe burns to paw pads.
Our Summer Walking Protocols
During the peak summer months, our professional walking services adapt strictly to the heat:
- Early or Late Walks: We schedule intense physical activity for the cooler morning or evening hours.
- Shade and Grass: Midday potty breaks are kept brief, utilizing shaded grassy areas entirely off the pavement.
- Hydration Checks: We ensure water bowls are constantly refreshed with cool, clean water and monitor for signs of dehydration.
